My first quad adventure: A beginner's journey
Personal story of overcoming fears and discovering a new passion.
My first quad adventure: A beginner's journey
The Decision
I'd always been curious about quad biking but never had the courage to try. When friends invited me on a weekend trip to Žabljak, I finally said yes. Little did I know it would change my life.
Day One: Pure Terror
The ATV looked intimidating up close. Our guide, Marko, was patient and encouraging. He walked us through every control, made us practice starting and stopping, and only then led us to the trail.
The first 30 minutes were terrifying. Every bump felt like I might tip over. My hands gripped the handlebars so tightly they went white. But slowly, something shifted.
The Turning Point
About an hour in, we reached a clearing overlooking a vast valley. The autumn colors painted the mountains in gold and crimson. I realized I was smiling — genuinely, deeply smiling. The fear had melted away, replaced by pure exhilaration.
Day Two: Finding My Flow
By the second day, I was leaning into turns, navigating rocky sections, and even picking up speed on straightaways. The ATV felt less like a machine and more like an extension of my body.
We crossed a shallow stream, climbed a steep hill, and rode through a tunnel of overhanging trees. Each new challenge felt like a small victory.
What I Learned
What's Next
I've already booked my next trip — this time to Durmitor National Park. The trails are harder, the scenery is wilder, and I can't wait.
